Keeping track of your inventory is crucial for the success of your business.
A stock-keeping unit or SKU is a number or name assigned to a product for inventory management.
A SKU is a unique identifier assigned to each product.
LVK uses the SKUs you created in your store to identify your products. These SKUs must be unique for all your products and their variants. For instance, if you're selling a Red Dress in two sizes, the SKUs would look similar to this:
- red-dress-small
- red-dress-large
A barcode or UPC (Universal Product Code) represents data in a visual, machine-readable form through varying widths and spacings of parallel lines.
Examples of Compliant Barcode Placement
Below are some examples of compliant barcode placement.

Why are barcodes and SKUs so important?
- In the warehouse, we organize products by location and scan each product and SKU before moving it to the picking area.
- Checking your SKUs and barcodes helps our warehouse team pick the correct item and prevents shipping the wrong product to your customers.
- Accurate barcodes and SKUs are crucial for efficient operations and timely order fulfillment.
- The product's SKU and barcode in your store must match the SKU and barcode of the products in stock or being received at our facilities.
LVK is NOT responsible for any incorrect shipments resulting from incorrect labeling of a product's barcode or SKU by the vendor or supplier.
Important Reminders
- It is possible to add multiple barcodes to a SKU profile — typically when updating a product's UPC. However, barcodes cannot be shared among multiple SKUs. For example, SKU A can have two barcodes associated with it, but those barcodes cannot also be assigned to SKU B.
- When it comes to master cases, case barcodes that do not match individual units are necessary. The barcode on the case represents the quantity inside it; individual units inside the case also carry their own barcodes. Read more HERE.
- Must be at least 5 digits and no more than 25 digits.
- No non-standard characters (such as an emoji).
- No spaces before or after.
- If you don't generate a UPC for each product in your store, the LVK app will auto-generate one for you.
- All barcodes must be printed on a white background with black ink.
- Barcode data in your store must match the barcode data on the LVK product page.
- You can print barcodes directly from the LVK application or apply your own.
- To modify the barcode field for a product, you must make the change before adding the product to a shipping plan. If you need help, please open a support ticket.
Preferred barcode size: 52.5 mm × 29.7 mm. Must be smaller than 2″ × 3″.
