Unexpected Carrier Surcharges
Carriers occasionally encounter obstacles when delivering packages to certain areas or under certain conditions. As a result, carriers pass along unexpected carrier surcharges (UCS) to LVK to account for the added expense and time.
Because UCS doesn't affect every LVK client, raising our base rates to cover these charges wouldn't be fair to all clients. Instead, LVK passes these charges back only to the affected merchants.
Examples That May Generate UCS Charges
- Delivery to a remote, extended, or super-remote area
- Address corrections or wrong-address return to sender
- Delivery attempts to a new address or multiple delivery attempts
- Additional handling based on weight, DIM, and packaging
- Signature options
- Inside delivery
- International clearance services and related fees
- Delivery Added Surcharge (DAS) and Extended Delivery Added Surcharge (EDAS)
- Weight or DIM differences identified during carrier audits. For example, you may see a UCS Charge Description such as: "UCS Weight difference - original weight: 13 (oz.), actual weight: 15.84 (oz.), invoiced weight: 16.00 (oz.): $1.30." In this example, LVK estimated a label cost based on 13 oz., but the carrier audited and charged for the actual weight of 15.84 oz
Where Will I See the Charge?
You will see it on the cost breakdown of the order and on your invoice. Example:

When Will I Get Charged?
Carrier surcharges are charged according to your regular LVK billing cadence. All UCS charges are applied to the Fulfillment Invoice in your portal.

FedEx may charge some USPS Non-Machinable surcharges when Smartpost is mapped, as USPS handles the last mile of delivery (FedEx approaches the recipient's area, but USPS completes the final delivery).
